Western Health Trust in Omagh, Northern Ireland approached us with a challenge: to provide two anti-ligature covered outdoor areas that would also be safe and secure for patients to use.
We collaborated closely with the client and their construction company to develop a comprehensive solution to their unique requirements. This involved designing spacious hospital canopies to meet the stringent safety standards required for a mental health facility, in particular focusing on anti-ligature features, including:
- Built in gutters and downpipes
- Smooth anti-climb posts
- Side walls with tough, impact-resistant polycarbonate to provide weather protection and remove as many potential ligature points as possible
The side walls enclose three sides of the canopies and also ensure it remains comfortable and functional year round, regardless of weather conditions.
The final design proudly features our industry-leading Spaceshade anti-ligature hospital canopy system, renowned for its durability and innovative design. This system provides a welcoming and sheltered outdoor area, enhancing the hospital environment and offering a serene space for patients, visitors, and staff to enjoy, thereby contributing positively to the overall healthcare experience.
