Trinity C of E Primary School in Exeter required high-quality playground canopies to enhance their outdoor provision and maximise usable space throughout the school year.
Working in partnership with the main contractor, Kensington Systems was appointed to design, supply, and install Spaceshade playground canopies to support the school’s vision for extended outdoor learning.
The new canopies have transformed previously exposed playground areas into sheltered, flexible teaching zones. Now protected from rain and excessive sun, pupils and staff can confidently use the outdoors in all seasons — whether for structured lessons, small group activities, or informal learning.
For EYFS and SEND pupils in particular, access to consistent, sheltered outdoor space is invaluable. The covered areas provide a calm, predictable environment that supports sensory regulation, continuous provision and free-flow learning, allowing children to transition seamlessly between indoor and outdoor settings regardless of weather conditions.
The Spaceshade canopy’s clean-lined design complements the modern school architecture while delivering robust, low-maintenance performance. Engineered for durability and long-term reliability, it provides excellent weather protection without compromising natural light — creating bright, welcoming spaces that feel open rather than enclosed.
By creating high-quality covered external areas, the project has significantly increased the school’s functional footprint without the need for costly building extensions. The result is a more adaptable, inclusive learning environment that supports wellbeing, creativity and active education throughout the year.
