Enhancing Lunchtime Comfort: St Philomena’s New Dining Canopy

St Philomena’s Catholic High School for Girls sits on a campus that mixes real heritage with modern school buildings, so any new addition has to look like it belongs.

They came to us with a very practical problem: lunch service was bursting at the seams, and they needed more covered dining space so pupils could eat outside without it turning into a weather lottery.

We designed and installed a new dining canopy with an adjacent walkway canopy, plus picnic benches underneath to make the space genuinely usable, not just “covered”.

Kensington Systems also delivered all the groundworks, which meant the school had one team owning the whole package, from the structure down to the finished surface and drainage details.

This project shows how a modern, cleanlined canopy sits comfortably against both the older character buildings and the newer blocks, so it feels like an intentional upgrade rather than an afterthought.

The end result is a calmer lunch setup and a covered area that works as an everyday space, not just a rainy-day fallback.
