The Challenge
Medical Imaging Partnership faced a critical infrastructure challenge when installing a new MRI scanner outside Kings Mill Hospital's main building. The external placement created an immediate patient safety and privacy concern - critically ill patients would need to be transferred from the hospital building to the scanner via an outdoor walkway, leaving them vulnerable to weather conditions and potentially compromising their privacy.
With the scanner installation already underway, Medical Imaging Partnership needed a rapid solution that would ensure patient safety, maintain medical privacy standards, and facilitate smooth transfers of hospital beds and equipment.

The Solution
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Medical Imaging Partnership contacted Kensington Systems for their expertise in creating protective enclosures.
Kensington Systems responded with a comprehensive, bespoke solution centered around their proven Spaceshade canopy system. The design incorporated impact-resistant opaque polycarbonate side walls that provided both weather protection and complete visual privacy for patients during transfer. Integrated lighting ensured the walkway remained well-lit for safe navigation at all hours.
Beyond the enclosure itself, Kensington Systems took a holistic approach to the project, conducting essential groundworks and designing a specialized flooring system with integrated ramps to facilitate smooth movement of hospital beds and medical equipment. Safety guardrails were installed throughout to provide additional protection for patients and medical staff during transfers.
