School Dining Canopies: Great Wyrley Academy Case Study

Great Wyrley Academy is an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school located in the village of Great Wyrley in rural Staffordshire. Part of Windsor Academy Trust, the school aims to unlock the personal and academic potential of every child.

While there has been significant investment in school facilities in recent years, the school still needed additional dining space for students to eat and socialise at break times. However, building a new dining hall wasn't an option due to timescales and budgets.

This led Windsor Academy Trust to get in touch with Kensington Systems, who were able to provide a solution with a Spaceshade dining canopy. A grassy courtyard provided the perfect location for a large double roof canopy, as well as a smaller canopy linking between the main canopy and the entrance into the courtyard to keep students dry.

Artificial turf was also installed alongside the canopy, creating an ideal year-round dining and socialising space which is also sheltered from wind and weather thanks to its courtyard location.

Thanks to Spaceshade range's solar-ready design, the new dining canopy can also have solar panels installed in the future, helping the school reduce its energy bills and carbon footprint further.
