Formerly part of the Microsoft campus, two tired office buildings in the Thames Valley were transformed into flexible working spaces focused on ESG, wellness and sustainability as part of this project. This project involved reusing and refurbishing the existing space into a new, welcoming space which is net zero carbon, BREEAM Outstanding, Fitwel 3*, Five at Heart accredited, Wiredscore Platinum and RESET accredited. The buildings were renamed ‘Here’ and ‘Now’ as part of the refit.
As part of the refurbishment, Kensington Systems supplied and installed a bespoke glulam entrance canopy on both buildings to help give the exteriors a facelift. The bespoke design featured a glulam frame, single ply waterproof membrane and bespoke gutter profile, aluminium cladding to the front and spotlights installed on the underside. Planting and signage were also installed on top.
The warmth of the glulam exposed on the underside provides a counterpoint to the otherwise grey facade, while its structural strength makes it ideal for large unsupported spans like those required for an entrance area.
