Products: Bespoke Glulam Timber Entrance Canopy Structure
Sector: Health
Location: Coventry
This unique and sustainable new health centre in Coventry has won multiple awards from many sources since its completion, including for offsite construction, value, sustainability and carbon reduction. It is the UK’s first and only Passivhaus-certified healthcare building.
Passivhaus is an international design standard used to design buildings with high energy efficiency and low ecological impact. By incorporating Passivhaus principles into the design, the NHS hopes to significantly reduce the centre’s running costs as well as its environmental footprint.
We worked with Portakabin to design and install a bespoke feature entrance canopy manufactured from glue-laminated timber on this award-winning new health centre in Foleshill, Coventry. The client chose a silver-grey stained finish.
The new canopy makes for a stunning entrance to the building.
Glulam timber is a structural timber product made with layers of timber glued together with special adhesive. The resulting product is immensely strong and extremely versatile. It is becoming increasingly popular as a building material due to its environmental credentials, naturally beautiful appearance and impressive strength-to-weight ratio compared to steel.
