As budgets on construction projects of every kind, from hospitals to schools to office developments, comes under the cosh, we are hearing language like can we change the specification? Can we do without? Can we dispense with this design? And many more such phrases.

Creativity and design, as well as making buildings and environments safe, affordable, long-lasting, and energy-efficient should be focused on achieving a finished product that any distinguished designer could be proud of.

So why does a challenging economic climate stand in the way of creating good architecture?

Good architecture may not be the lowest cost but design that creates practical good looking buildings will pay for itself time and again.

The type of building an organisation occupies is often an image of its values and brand. So the designers influence can have a substantial effect on how these are perceived. And, in adding value, a good designer will make a building a tangible asset.![Lyde Green](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png)

There are numerous benefits created through well designed educational buildings. As long ago as 1874, E R Robson, architect to the London School Board, stressed the importance of sunlight and fresh air in schools: ‘They are to a young child very much what they are to a flower’. Nearly 150 years later these observations are no less pertinent. We know that poor air quality can lead to drowsiness and affect concentration, leading to declining results.

Could your next building design incorporate a [Spaceshade™ canopy](https://www.kensingtonsystems.co.uk/school-canopies-playground-shelters/)? Whether that be a school with a fabulous looking outdoor learning area or a [walkway between classroom blocks](https://kensingtonsystems.co.uk/hillside-first-school/) or maybe you are designing a flagship conference centre with a covered outdoor plaza area, whatever your project [Spaceshade™ canopies](https://kensingtonsystems.co.uk/shelter/canopies-freestanding/) will make a bold statement.

[Kensington](https://kensingtonsystems.co.uk/) have some awesome examples in our [case studies](https://kensingtonsystems.co.uk/case-studies/) of buildings where the [Spaceshade™ range of school canopies](https://kensingtonsystems.co.uk/shelter/canopies-freestanding/) have been used to incredible effect, prompting client statements such as “it makes the building” and “it works architecturally in the environment” as well as many other [great testimonials](https://kensingtonsystems.co.uk/testimonials/).
